Atlas is a figure from Greek mythology, often depicted as a powerful Titan who was condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders for eternity as punishment for his role in the Titanomachy, the war between the Titans and the Olympian gods. In art and literature, he is commonly portrayed as a towering and muscular being, burdened with the weight of the celestial sphere. As the father of the Hesperides and the nymph Calypso, Atlas is also associated with certain myths involving these figures. His name has become synonymous with endurance, strength, and the idea of bearing a heavy burden.
